About White Wolf Acres

Pasture

We're located in lovely Southwest Oklahoma with Mt. Scott, located in the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, as our western skyline. About 10 years ago I started developing a new miniature breed I call "Short Shorts". As all breeds should be, Short Shorts are a breed in progress. I started with some shorthorn cows I purchased from a friend's herd that he has been developing for over 40 years. I then bred them to two outstanding Australian Low Line bulls. I later introduced an infusion of the Sundog breed. The ultimate animal will meet the Miniature Cattle Breeds Registry as far as height at the hip bone. It will be multicolored, fast growing, fast maturing and love to be around people. You can make them pets or steaks with equal ease!!

You can find more information about miniature cattle breeds and other sites by visiting the links at the bottom of the page, or by using "The Web" option on the seach bar above.

Why Use Short Horns

Posted by Gary Howell

I chose the shorthorn breed specifically because of it's beautiful & varied coloration. It ranges from almost solid red through spotted & roan and all the way to solid white. When you breed a shorthorn bull to a shorthorn cow, you never know what color the calf will be. The shorthorn is well known for it's versatility, being an outstanding dual purpose breed. It's a great beef animal while producing copious amounts of milk. It is also an outstanding forager with well known mothering abilities. They take care of their calves!

Why Use The Sundog and Low Line

White Cow

I picked the Low Line Black Angus to down size the shorthorn in order to take advantage of the years the Australian government spent in making this unique breed one of the most efficient meat breeds in the world, if not the best.

I mixed in the Sundog breed to take advantage of the great temperament characterized by Ralph Sower's Toy Sundog breed. Also, while multicolored, most of them are red or reddish, and seem to genuinely love people.

About The Breeder

Gpa

I have always enjoyed working with animals, experimenting & developing new breeds ranging from pigeons and chickens to tropical fish. When I moved to my current home and found myself thinking of things to do with the five acres it stands on, I started looking around for a larger animal that I would enjoy working with. I had milked goats while growing up & they didn't interest me so my focus turned to cattle. I'm surrounded by top class Shorthorn breeders and think they are beautiful cattle. I knew, however, they were way to big for my limited pasture space. Keeping that in mind, my goal became breeding a Mini Shorthorn of such great quality, those same breeders will look at it and say, "He's perfect, but he's just too damn short!"

Temperament

Bull

This is Rambo, a bull sired by Ralph Sowers' bull, Buttercube. I've never known any breed that loves people like Ralph's Toy Sundog breed. They are being bred specifically for the family who has a small spread and wants a beautiful bovine for the freezer or as a pet.
